Bush encroachment is a major environmental challenge leading to severe land degradation in Namibia’s semi-arid regions. Currently, over 45 million hectares of agricultural land are affected by this phenomenon.
The dense thickening of bush decreases biodiversity, degrades the structure of ecological ecosystems, lowers the grasslands’ carrying capacity for wildlife and cattle, and negatively impacts groundwater recharge.
At Carbo Nile Namibia Exporters CC, we view this challenge as an opportunity. Our charcoal production is 100% deforestation-free. Instead of cutting down forests, we harvest these invasive intruder bushes.
